Woolly Worm

This "worm" is the larval stage of a tiger moth. An old wives' tale says you can predict winter weather by observing woolly worms - the narrower the brown band the more severe the winter. So it looks good, according to this guy, but we saw several entirely black ones also ... take your pick.

There's actually a Woolly Worm Festival in Banner Elk, NC every October!
